Sunstone Environmental Solutions is pleased to announce the launch of our new Air Quality Department. This expansion allows us to deliver a full range of air quality permitting and compliance services fully in-house, strengthening our ability to support clients across both state and federal permitting processes.
Sunstone has long supported mining clients with a wide range of state and federal permitting needs. By bringing air quality permitting capabilities in-house, we can now offer even greater integration across the full spectrum of environmental permits and plans required for mining projects in Nevada and across the Western U.S.
Why This Expansion Matters
Air quality permitting is a critical component of most mining projects, whether during exploration, development, operations, or reclamation. Previously, much of this work was supported through external subcontractors. While effective, this approach often led to coordination challenges between air quality requirements and other environmental permits.
With our new Air Quality Department, Sunstone can now manage air permitting work internally alongside our existing strengths in:
- Water Pollution Control Permits (WPCP)
- Reclamation Plans
- NEPA documentation (Environmental Assessments and Environmental Impact Statements)
- Plans of Operations
- Other state and federal permitting requirements
This integrated approach helps reduce duplication of effort, improves consistency across permits, and allows for more efficient project timelines.
Air Quality Services We Now Offer In-House
Our Air Quality team provides comprehensive support across the following areas:
- Air Quality Permit Applications & Revisions — Including Class I/Title V, Class II, MOPTC, and SAD
- Source Testing Support & Oversight — Coordination and oversight of source testing programs to support permitting and compliance requirements.
- Air Dispersion Modeling — Supporting permit applications, compliance demonstrations, and regulatory submissions
- Air Sampling & Monitoring — Development and implementation of air sampling and monitoring programs to meet regulatory and permit conditions.
- Potential-to-Emit Assessments & Emission Inventories — Preparation of potential-to-emit evaluations and emission inventories to support permitting and regulatory reporting.
- Compliance Support, Annual Reporting, 3rd Party Audits — Ongoing compliance assistance, including annual reporting and third-party audit support.
Better Integration Across Permitting Workstreams
One of the main advantages of bringing air quality in-house is improved coordination with other permitting efforts. Air quality requirements frequently intersect with water permitting, reclamation planning, and NEPA processes. By managing these workstreams internally, Sunstone can identify potential conflicts earlier, align mitigation strategies, and provide clients with more cohesive support.
Clients benefit from working with a single team that understands how different permit requirements interact, rather than coordinating between multiple firms.
Supporting Mining Projects Across the Western U.S.
Sunstone’s new Air Quality Department primarily serves mining and industrial clients in Nevada and throughout the Western United States. Our team is experienced working with the Nevada Division of Environmental Protection (NDEP) and other federal and state agencies, and understands the regulatory landscape specific to mining operations in the region.
Whether you are preparing a new Plan of Operations, pursuing an air quality permit, or managing ongoing compliance across multiple permits, our goal is to provide practical, responsive support that helps keep your projects on track.
Looking Ahead
The launch of our Air Quality Department represents a meaningful step in expanding Sunstone’s in-house capabilities. We remain committed to serving as a trusted extension of our clients’ teams by delivering integrated, high-quality environmental permitting and compliance support.
